The Canadian Rockies by rail
The Rockies are where train travel makes the strongest case for itself. You sit back, the mountains do the work, and you arrive rested instead of worn out from driving. This is one of my favorite regions to plan, and one I know well.
By train
Rocky Mountaineer is the signature way to see it, traveling by daylight so you do not sleep through the scenery. The routes run between Vancouver and the mountain towns of Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, each one a different stretch of the Rockies. For a longer journey, VIA Rail's Canadian crosses the whole country from Toronto to Vancouver. I build the trip around the route, seat class, and pace that fit you. And if you love the idea of Rocky Mountaineer but would rather stay stateside, their US route now runs as Canyon Spirit through Colorado and Utah, more on that on its own page.
Add a cruise
Because Vancouver is a major Alaska cruise port, the Rockies pair naturally with a sailing. Ride the rails through the mountains, then board a ship for the Inside Passage. It is one of the best rail-and-sail combinations there is, and I plan the whole thing as one trip.
What a trip looks like
Guided rail segments and touring in Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, with independent time to walk the lakeshore, ride a gondola, or simply sit with the view. Comfortable hotels with good locations, not the most expensive room for its own sake, but the right one.
Who it suits
Couples who want scenery without a rental car, travelers pairing the Rockies with an Alaska cruise, and multigenerational groups.
Why book the Rockies with me
The routes, seat classes, and hotel choices make a real difference here, and they are easy to get wrong on your own. I am a travel advisor based near San Antonio, and I match them to your trip and handle the connections between rail, hotels, and any cruise so the days link up cleanly.
